US President Joe Biden has condemned Russia for what he called an "unprovoked and unjustified" military attack on Ukraine.
Biden released a statement on Thursday after talking with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by phone.
Biden said Zelenskyy had asked him "to call on the leaders of the world to speak out clearly against President Putin's flagrant aggression, and to stand with the people of Ukraine."
He said the US, its allies and partners will be imposing severe sanctions on Russia.
Biden renewed his pledge to continue providing support and assistance to Ukraine and its people.
