A star player from Russia in the North American National Hockey League has appealed for peace. Alex Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals and the NHL's nine-time scoring champion, spoke to reporters on Friday. The 36-year-old from Moscow said he hopes for "no more war." He said he has lots of friends in Russia and Ukraine and that he doesn't want to see anybody get hurt or killed. He said he hopes the war ends and that people will live in peace. Ovechkin is known as a long-time supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He uses a photograph of himself and the president posing together for his Instagram icon. Asked if he still supports Putin, he said Putin is "my president," adding that he is not a politician and only an athlete.
