People from around Ukraine are fleeing the advancing Russian forces, traveling by train and other means to the western city of Lviv near the Polish border. On Saturday morning, many families with suitcases were seen waiting for trains and buses in front of a train station in the city center, to take them to Poland. The area was guarded by soldiers carrying automatic rifles. A couple from Kyiv said there had been an airstrike on the capital on Friday and that they had been forced to spend three hours in a shelter. They fled out of stress of not knowing when the next attack may come. They said the train that eventually evacuated them was overcrowded with 14 people forced to share seating meant for four. A 33-year-old woman who is traveling with her family wept as she said she had never thought this kind of thing would happen, and that Putin is a terrible man. She said she is worried that their hometown will be occupied, and they will have no place to return to. A woman selling bread at a market in the city center, where many people were seen buying food, said the war has made people anxious and is causing them to buy more bread than usual.
