FIFA: No international competitions to be played in Russia NHK

Soccer's world governing body, FIFA, has banned international competitions in Russia as part of the measures against the country's invasion of Ukraine.

FIFA announced on its website on Monday that no international competitions shall be played on the territory of Russia. It said that matches already scheduled to take place in Russia will have to be played on neutral territory and without spectators.

FIFA also said that the Russian football association will have to use the name of "Football Union of Russia" to participate in any competition.

FIFA also banned the use of Russia's national flag and anthem in matches involving teams from the Football Union of Russia.

The football associations of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Sweden have already boycotted playoff matches with Russia in the upcoming European qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2022.

FIFA says it will continue its dialogue with the three football associations to find appropriate and acceptable solutions together.
