Tokyo Electric Power Company said no abnormalities were found as of 4:30 a.m. on Thursday at its crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant following an offshore earthquake.
                
TEPCO observed no changes in the measurements at radioactivity monitoring posts and radioactive dust monitors in the plant&#039;s compound after a magnitude 7.4 quake struck off northeastern Japan on Wednesday night.
                
The utility said water levels temporarily dropped in the tank connected to the spent fuel storage pool of the No. 2 reactor. It said it plans to start recovery work after confirming what caused the water levels to drop.
                
It said the pump sending water to the spent fuel storage pool of the No. 5 reactor had stopped automatically, but resumed operation before 4:30 a.m.
                
The company also said fire alarms were activated at the turbine building of the No. 5 reactor, but it later confirmed there was no fire.
                
TEPCO also said water pumps in spent fuel storage pools in the Fukushima Daini plant briefly stopped working, but soon resumed operation.
