Wang Yi: China, developing nations hold similar Ukraine positions NHK

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has insisted the majority of countries in the world including China and other developing countries share reasonable concerns and hold similar positions on the Ukraine crisis.

Wang made the remarks on Sunday at a media briefing in China's Anhui Province after holding talks with visiting Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra.

Wang mentioned a resolution adopted with the support of 141 countries at the UN General Assembly on March 2 that demands Russia stop the attacks and withdraw its troops.

He pointed out that quite a number of countries including China and Algeria abstained in the voting, saying that abstention is a responsible attitude to give peace a chance and shows disapproval of using war and sanctions to address disputes.

Wang also criticized severe economic sanctions imposed by many Western countries, saying escalating unilateral sanctions will fracture global industry and supply chains and hurt the livelihood of people of all countries.
