Zelenskyy to address Japanese lawmakers on Wednesday NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to deliver a virtual address to Japanese lawmakers on Wednesday.

Executives of the Diet's steering committees decided on Tuesday that the online address will be shown in two separate areas of a building for members of the Lower House, not the plenary session hall of the Diet, from 6 p.m., Japan time.

Zelenskyy has given virtual speeches at parliaments of Western countries to call for support following Russia's invasion of his country.

Ukrainian ambassador to Japan, Sergiy Korsunsky, asked the chairs of both houses of the Diet last week to arrange for Zelenskyy to address Japanese lawmakers.

Sources say Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, the heads of both chambers of the Diet and Ambassador Korsunsky will be among the attendees.

They also say the speech will be streamed online as the number of seats is limited.

Both houses of the Diet say the Ukrainian president's speech will be the first online address by a foreign leader at the Diet.
