White House officials and their allies have introduced a range of measures to dissuade Russian leaders over the war in Ukraine. US President Joe Biden will travel to Europe later this week to encourage them to do more. On Tuesday, Biden's National Security Advisor outlined the President's itinerary. Jake Sullivan said Biden wants to ensure the allies " stay united." The President will attend meetings in Brussels on Thursday of NATO, the Group of 7 Nations, and the European Union. He will travel to Warsaw on Friday for talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda. Sullivan said Biden would commit to more military support and more humanitarian aid. He said the US is prepared to send more equipment to Ukraine and to "fortify" NATO allies. Sullivan said Biden and other leaders would announce more sanctions on Russia. He said they would also discuss ways to ensure penalties already in place are "effectively enforced." Biden will also discuss how to cooperate on energy security. Europeans rely heavily on Russian oil, gas, and coal. The President is expected to announce a plan to reduce that dependence.
