A Russian journalist with the state-run broadcaster has quit in protest over her country's invasion of Ukraine. She criticized the organization she worked on for being government propaganda. Zhanna Agalakova had worked as a newsreader at Russia's Channel One. She was also a correspondent in France and other countries. She first posted news of her resignation on social media on March 17. Agalakova held a news conference in Paris on Tuesday organized by the international press freedom group, Reporters Without Borders. She said the news on Channel One only covers "the first man of our country," President Vladimir Putin, and his aides. Agalakova said she was able to resign because she is free and protected in France. But she noted her colleagues in Russia have families, and are "hostages of the situation," adding that it is not easy for them to protest. She also reflected on her career, admitting she had to make many compromises. Agalakova urged the people of Russia to seek other sources of information, and "learn what propaganda is, and stop being zombified."
