Russia to expel US diplomats in retaliation NHK

Russia says it is expelling US diplomats in response to Washington's move to remove 12 of Moscow's New York-based diplomats to the United Nations last month.

Russia's foreign ministry informed the US Embassy in Moscow of the move on Wednesday. It did not say how many diplomats would be expelled.

The ministry reportedly told the US that any hostile actions against Russia would provoke a decisive and comparable response.

US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in a news conference on Wednesday that "ready, open lines of communication are indispensable, especially during times of heightened tension, especially during times of conflict."

He also said it would be difficult for the US Embassy in Moscow to continue functioning if there are further personnel limits.
