A Ukrainian Defence Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that some movements of Russian troops to withdraw from areas around the capital, Kyiv, and the northern city of Chernihiv have been observed. But he added that a major withdrawal is not taking place, and Russia is ready to resume attacks. He went on to say that Russia is focused on surrounding the Ukrainian military in the eastern part of the country. The spokesperson expressed a view that the Russian military continues to aim to take control of Mariupol, a strategic city in the east.
