The powerful quake had a depth of 10 kilometers. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says tsunami waves of up to 30 centimeters could reach Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu.
It warns the waves could move fast and hit coastal areas one after another.
