A magnitude 7 earthquake has hit the New Caledonia region. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says it struck off the coast of the Loyalty Islands at around 5:45 UTC. The powerful quake had a depth of 10 kilometers. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says tsunami waves of up to 30 centimeters could reach Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. It warns the waves could move fast and hit coastal areas one after another. Anyone there should stay tuned to local emergency channels for the latest on what to do to protect themselves.
