People escaping from Ukraine are being advised about the dangers of human trafficking.
                
Przemysl in southeastern Poland is a major transit point for those fleeing Ukraine and heading for other destinations. Many of the evacuees are women and young children.
                
A Polish government notice at the train station, written in Ukrainian, cautions evacuees not to give their documents or mobile phones to others as much as possible. They are also advised that if someone offers them a ride, they should check the person&#039;s ID or keep a record of the vehicle&#039;s license plate.
                
A 20-year-old woman, who said she was from Chernihiv, Ukraine, said she believes it will be safer to stay with a large group of Ukrainians.
                
In border areas, many individuals and groups are offering to arrange accommodation or travel for evacuees. But local police and administrators say they have also received reports of evacuees who accepted offers of transport, but were not told where they were being taken.
                
People who have no acquaintances outside Ukraine are most at risk.
                
William Lauderdale works for International Justice Mission, a US-based non-governmental group dedicated to preventing human trafficking.
                
He says that authorities need to provide evacuees with accurate information and streamline the process of offering support to prevent such crimes. He adds that strict registration procedures are needed for people offering rides, so they can be traced if something happens.
