Japan will play Spain and Germany in Group E of the 2022 soccer World Cup finals due to kick off in Qatar in November. The draw was held in Doha on Friday. There are 32 teams divided into eight groups. Japan's first match is against Germany on November 23, followed by the winner of the intercontinental playoff between Costa Rica and New Zealand on November 27. Japan's third match will be against Spain on December 1. In Group A, host nation Qatar plays Ecuador in the opening match on November 21. Defending champion France is in Group D, which also includes Denmark. The top two teams from each group advance to the knock-out stage.
