Saturday marks 40 years since the start of the Falklands War. The Argentine President reiterated his country's claim to the islands in a memorial ceremony. The conflict began on April 2, 1982 when Argentina launched an invasion of the British-controlled islands in the South Atlantic. Fighting lasted over two months and ended in a British victory. Veterans have gathered in the capital Buenos Aires on Saturday to remember those who fell in the war. During the ceremony President Alberto Fernandez called "Las Islas Malvinas", the Argentine name for the islands, a part of the national territory and said his country will never give up. He added that the world is shaken by the war in Europe and that images of deaths and destruction dominate media reporting. He went on to say that Argentina would continue dialogue with the UK to seek a solution.
