The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 7,899 new cases of the coronavirus and nine deaths on Sunday. The figure increased by more than 50 from a week ago. The number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in the capital stands at 31, down one from Saturday.
