Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa is scheduled to meet Polish government leaders on Monday to discuss Ukraine. He is expected to fly back to Japan with some evacuees from Ukraine. Hayashi is visiting Poland as a special envoy of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. He will meet Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau on Monday. They will talk about ways to support people fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The UN says Poland has accepted about 60 percent of the more than four million evacuees from Ukraine. Hayashi is due to leave Poland for Japan on a government plane later in the day. Japanese government officials say about 20 evacuees are hoping to board the flight. Hayashi traveled to the Polish city of Rzeszow on Sunday, near the border with Ukraine. He met officials of the UN refugee agency and other international organizations helping evacuees. Hayashi said he learned about some challenges during the visit. He said he will use what he saw and heard on the ground to improve Japan's assistance for evacuees.
