A city near Tokyo is making preparations to receive more Ukrainian evacuees after welcoming four people from the country. Kashiwa City in Chiba Prefecture has taken in four Ukrainians belonging to two families who have made their way to Japan to be reunited with relatives living in the city. The newcomers include a pregnant woman and a child. City officials have been making arrangements for the four to receive medical support and for the child to be enrolled at a daycare center. Officials expect more Ukrainians to make their way to the city. They have secured four municipal housing units for such incomers, and also plan to work with real-estate firms to secure more accommodation. Kashiwa will also provide consultation services for evacuees at the city office. It will purchase 20 devices that can auto-translate speech and text for evacuees in need. The city is to provide 100,000 yen, or about 800 dollars, to each household for their immediate living expenses. It is also to offer an amount equivalent to welfare benefits, starting this month. A senior city official has expressed hopes that Kashiwa can give a warm welcome and provide support to evacuees who have undergone so much before arriving in Japan.
