A Japanese government plane with 20 Ukrainian evacuees on board arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the chief cabinet secretary said the authorities would offer various kinds of assistance to them. Matsuno Hirokazu told reporters that Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa learned during his latest trip to Poland that there are Ukrainians who wish to come to Japan, but are unable to secure the means to travel. Matsuno said it was decided from a humanitarian viewpoint that the 20 such people should travel on a government plane from Poland to Japan. Hayashi visited the country as a special envoy for Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. Poland has accepted the most evacuees so far. To support their adjustment to a new life in Japan, the Japanese government will offer them funds to cover daily expenses and medical costs via a foundation. Matsuno said the government will continue to offer help even after the evacuees are accepted by host municipalities or companies willing to support them. Japan has accepted 404 evacuees from Ukraine as of Sunday.
