Italy issues demands to ChatGPT developer NHK

Italy's data-protection authorities have ordered the developer of ChatGPT to respond to a set of demands to ensure private data is protected.

The Italian authorities temporarily banned the use of the AI-powered chatbot in the country last month. They said collecting vast arrays of data to train AI may be a violation of Italian laws on personal data protection.

The officials made the request on Wednesday to OpenAI, the US startup that developed ChatGPT.

One requirement is that the company allows users to revise or delete their personal data.

The firm must introduce stricter-age verification measures to protect children.

The authorities are also demanding that OpenAI run a TV and Internet campaign that educates the public on the use of personal data to train AI.

The officials plan to lift their temporary ban if the company complies with the instructions by the end of this month.
