Horrors around Kyiv fuel global outrage NHK

A senior official at the Pentagon said on Wednesday that Russian troops have completed their withdrawal from the area around Kyiv. Investigators who've visited the battlegrounds have been shocked by what they've found.

The investigators found bodies throughout the suburb of Bucha including some that had been burnt. They've seen mass graves. They're documenting everything they find.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied any responsibility. He said the Ukrainians are responsible
for what he called a "cynical provocation."

But authorities in the town of Borodyanka have found scenes similar to those in Bucha. They said the number of victims could be even higher.

US officials have banned all new investment in Russia and blocked transactions at its two largest banks. And they've frozen the assets of Putin's two adult daughters.

The officials predict US sanctions in coordination with those of their allies will wipe out the last 15 years of Russia's economic gains.
