Pelosi tests positive for COVID, postpones Japan trip NHK

US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has postponed her visit to Japan. This comes after she tested positive for COVID-19.

Pelosi was scheduled to travel to Japan with a group of US Congress members this weekend.

She was expected to meet Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Lower House Speaker Hosoda Hiroyuki. She wanted to talk about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. She also planned to discuss ways of supporting Ukraine and responding to Moscow.

But on Thursday, Pelosi's office posted information on Twitter. It said she received a positive test result and that a planned congressional delegation trip to Asia has been postponed.

It also said she is currently asymptomatic and will quarantine in line with guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Pelosi was considering traveling to Taiwan after the visit to Japan. But sources say that plan has also been postponed.
