Japanese telecom giant NTT Group says it has decided to discontinue business with Moscow-based cybersecurity company Kaspersky, in an apparent ripple effect from Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Kaspersky is a global company headquartered in the Russian capital. It has offices in more than 30 countries and the company says at least 400 million people use its anti-virus software and other products. NTT Group said its group companies will stop using Kaspersky's cybersecurity software and replace it with other products. It may also review the sale of Kaspersky products by its group companies. The software is being sold by the group companies in packages together with their own IT services. NTT Group said it has yet to confirm any security problems with Kaspersky products. But it said the decision was made out of fear of the risks the products may pose on security. They also said serving as a provider of Kaspersky products could pose supply chain risks. On March 25, the Federal Communications Commission of the United States added Kaspersky to its list of communications equipment and service providers thought to pose threats to US national security. Businesses are banned from purchasing products and services from the listed companies using government subsidies. Kaspersky has denied suspected influence from the Kremlin or any other governments.
