Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen will self-isolate for about a week after one of her relatives she had a meal with was confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus. Presidential office spokesperson Xavier Chang said on Friday that Tsai will self-isolate at her residence until Thursday, although she tested negative. Chang also said Tsai will continue working via video link. Tsai had a meal with her relatives at the presidential residence on Monday. The infection situation in Taiwan is not severe, but the Omicron variant has been spreading there since the start of this month. Health officials confirmed 384 new cases on Friday. That's the highest since June, when the Delta variant was rampant. About 51 percent of Taiwan's population have gotten their third vaccine shot. The officials say they aim to ensure that none of the infected people will become seriously ill, and are urging residents who haven't been vaccinated to get the shots.
