Sony group to invest $1 bil. in Epic Games NHK

Japanese entertainment giant Sony Group has announced an investment of about 1 billion dollars into video game developer Epic Games to develop the virtual world known as the metaverse.

Epic is the company behind online game Fortnite, which boasts more than 350 million accounts worldwide.

The company has some of the world's most advanced gaming technology. This is the third time Sony has invested in Epic and will bring its stake to about 5 percent of the company.

But it's not the biggest of Sony's investments in gaming this year. The firm announced in January that it was buying US developer Bungie for 3.6 billion dollars. Bungie is the company behind the hit gaming franchises Destiny and Halo.
