Honda Motor says it will expand its lineup and output of electric vehicles, with plans to produce 2 million EVs a year globally by 2030. Officials at the Japanese automaker say they will eventually offer 30 models, and that EV production will make up about half of the firm's annual output. Over 4 million vehicles of all types rolled off Honda's lines across the world last year. The officials say that the carmaker will take the first step in its new EV strategy in Japan with the introduction of a mini model for commercial use in 2024. It will be priced between 1 million and 2 million yen, or roughly 8,000 to 16,000 dollars. The strategy also calls for the construction of a demonstration line for all-solid-state batteries in the spring of 2024. The next-generation devices are expected to extend the range of EVs well beyond the distance that cars using current lithium-ion batteries can travel. The automaker plans to spend 5 trillion yen, or about 40 billion dollars, over the next 10 years on EV-related research and development. Honda previously announced that it aims to make all models in its lineup electric- or hydrogen-powered by 2040.
