Police in New York launched a manhunt on Tuesday for a gunman who attacked commuters on the subway. The man hit 10 people and left 13 others hurt. But authorities said none of the injuries are life-threatening.

Witnesses said a man wearing a construction vest put on a gas mask during the morning rush hour. He set off a smoke bomb. Then, he started shooting. He hit passengers in a subway car and on the platform.

The gunman fled the station. But police were able to get a picture of him from a bystander's cell phone.

Investigators are not treating the attack as an act of terrorism. But New Yorkers were already nervous about a rise in gun violence as the city recovers from the pandemic.
