The United Nations human rights agency says as of Tuesday at least 1,932 civilians, including 157 children, had been killed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on February 24. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights says 1,234 of those deaths were reported in the regions of Kyiv, Kharkiv in the east, Chernihiv in the north, Kherson in the south, and in other areas. In the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, 698 deaths were reported. The OHCHR also says that 2,589 civilians have been injured. Most of the casualties were caused by explosives, missiles and air strikes. The UN agency says it believes the actual figures are considerably higher, as accurate numbers from some areas, including Mariupol, are not available because intense Russian bombardments are continuing. In a report posted on YouTube, Ukraine's public broadcaster quoted the country's prosecutors as saying 191 children had been killed and 349 injured as of Wednesday. The report said the Donetsk region had the highest number of child casualties at 113, accounting for more than 30 percent of the total. The Kyiv region followed with 102. The Kharkiv region had 79.
