G20 divided over Russia NHK

Leaders of the Group of 20 nations are debating whether they want Russian officials at their table. Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said he'll take part in a meeting with his counterparts next Wednesday.

Indonesia currently holds the G20 presidency. Reuters news agency quotes Indonesian officials as saying Siluanov plans to join virtually when finance ministers and central bank governors meet in Washington.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned the Americans will not take part if Russian officials show up.

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said Russia is not a country with which one can interact "like in the past."

Indonesian leaders have maintained their neutrality. They said they're considering inviting a Ukrainian representative to discuss "the impact of the conflict" in their country.

United Nations officials said the war is causing "alarming cascading effects" on the world economy, especially on developing countries.

Western sanctions on Russian energy have led to a spike in prices of oil and gas. The conflict has threatened production of some of Ukraine's main exports too, driving up prices of wheat, barley, and sunflower oil.
