Railway workers in Ukraine are rapidly rebuilding infrastructure damaged in the Russian invasion to ensure trains can continue to evacuate civilians and deliver humanitarian aid. On Friday, Ukrainian Railways conducted a test run on the line between the capital Kyiv and Chernihiv in the north. The route has been out of service due to extensive damage, which included the destruction of bridge girders on a section about 80 kilometers north of the capital. A charred Russian tank can still be seen nearby. Recovery work started after Russian forces withdrew from the region. Workers have already installed new girders, making it possible to resume operations on the tracks leading to the capital. They are still laying ballasts and rails on the tracks running toward Chernihiv. Rail officials say they hope to resume passenger train services on Saturday. The officials say infrastructure has come under attack across the country. More than 50 people were killed in a missile strike on a train station in the east. The chief of the passenger service division pledged to do everything possible to maintain services despite the fighting.
