Russia is continuing its attacks near the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and fighting is expected to intensify in the east of the country.
                
Russia&#039;s defense ministry said on Sunday that its high-precision missiles had destroyed an ammunition plant in Brovary, near Kyiv.
                
The mayor of Brovary said in a video message on social media that a missile attack had damaged the city&#039;s infrastructure. The mayor called for calm, saying the damage may cause problems with water, power and gas supplies, but the city will work to restore essential services as quickly as possible.
                
Russia&#039;s defense ministry said its forces had destroyed 68 military targets in Ukraine, including anti-aircraft missile systems and fuel depots.
                
Russia has demanded that the defenders of the key eastern city of Mariupol lay down their weapons by 1 p.m. on Sunday, local time.
                
The ministry said Russia will spare the lives of all those who lay down their weapons. It called on the Ukrainian forces to decide for themselves, as Moscow understands that the Kyiv headquarters will not order them to surrender.
                
The response from the Ukrainian side is not known, but fighting over the city is expected to intensify.
                
Britain&#039;s defense ministry said on Sunday Russian forces continue to redeploy combat and support equipment from Belarus towards eastern Ukraine.
                
It added that although Russia&#039;s operational focus has shifted to eastern Ukraine, Russia&#039;s ultimate objective remains the same. It described the objective as compelling Ukraine to abandon its Euro-Atlantic orientation and asserting its own regional dominance.
