Tokyo reports 3,479 new COVID cases, down from a week ago NHK

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Monday reported 3,479 new cases of the coronavirus in the capital, down about 1,000 from a week ago.

Tokyo officials also reported three deaths on Monday.

The number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in Tokyo dropped by two from Sunday, to 15.

The officials say the number of new cases remains high even though it is a downward trend. They ask residents to keep taking antivirus measures.

The nationwide tally of daily infections is 24,258, down by about 8,000 from a week ago.
