In Major League Baseball, Japanese outfielder Suzuki Seiya of the Chicago Cubs has been named the National League Player of the Week. Suzuki, who is in his Major League debut season, was awarded on Monday for his performance from April 11 through 17. During this period, he played in six games and had a batting average of .412, three homeruns and five RBIs. Japanese two-way star Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Angels was the last Japanese major leaguer to be named Player of the Week. He won the award in July. Later on Monday, Suzuki was in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays. He had two hits, extending his hitting streak to nine games and raising his batting average to .429. The Cubs won the game 4 to 2. Suzuki told reporters after the game he is happy about having been picked weekly MVP, but it's only for the week and it would be meaningless if he cannot keep up his performance, so he will continue to work hard. Suzuki said he is in his current position thanks to Japanese major leaguers who came before him, so he hopes to do his best to maintain the credibility of those who join after him.
