German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is to visit Japan next week for a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu told reporters in Friday's press briefing that Scholz will make a two-day visit from next Thursday. This is his first trip to Japan since taking office. Germany is the rotating chair of the Group of Seven framework this year. Matsuno said he hopes that the chancellor's visit will help deepen ties between the two countries that share basic values and are important partners for addressing international agendas.
