Japanese companies with automatic translation technology are making their services available in the Ukrainian language to help support the daily lives of evacuees from Ukraine.
                
Precision equipment maker Konica Minolta is offering translation services to municipalities. When a person speaks to a computer terminal, artificial intelligence translates the speech into the designated language and reads it out.
                
The service handles more than 30 languages. Since the number of Ukrainians fleeing to Japan increases, the company added their language to its list in April.
                
In addition to daily conversation, the system can also translate technical terms used in administrative procedures, such as a &quot;residence card&quot; and a &quot;taxation certificate.&quot;
                
A representative of the company says since there was a demand from Ukrainian evacuees they added the language from a humanitarian perspective. He said the company hopes the service will help people communicate in Japanese.
                
Pocketalk, which is available as a small AI translation device, donated 1,000 of the units to the Ukrainian Embassy in Tokyo. The company also started offering its translation service on Monday through a mobile phone app.
                
The service for smartphones is now available, allowing translation of Ukrainian into other languages.
