Russian forces in Ukraine are expanding their offensive and hitting targets outside of their strongholds in the eastern part of the country. The attacks have reportedly killed at least 5 people. The head of Ukraine's state railway company says at least five train stations came under fire in western and central areas of the country. The Russians say the strikes were aimed at disrupting arms supplies from outside Ukraine. The attacks came just hours after top US officials met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the capital, Kyiv. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin pledged an additional 713 million dollars of military aid to Ukraine and its allies. Russian forces continue to focus most of their attacks on southeast Ukraine. Defense officials in Moscow say the port city of Mariupol is under full control. However, Ukrainian troops have not given up. They are continuing to fight from inside a large steel-making facility, and civilians are sheltering with them. One woman in the shelter says she is appealing to the world on behalf of all the residents of Mariupol. She asks for their help and says they want to live in their city, in their country. Russian officials say they will suspend military operations to allow civilians to evacuate. However, Ukrainians say the forces are still trying to storm the plant, and that the United Nations should step in and establish a humanitarian corridor.
