Japanese food export platform launched in LA NHK

A new organization has been launched in the US city of Los Angeles to support and provide local information to Japanese food exporters.

The Japan Food Export Platform, launched on Tuesday, has brought together three US-based groups that represent Japanese restaurants and food manufacturers. Also taking part is the LA office of the Japan External Trade Organization.

The platform will draw up reports on local needs and regulations for exporters. It also plans to provide support for Japanese companies that want to cultivate new American business ties by helping with trade negotiations.

Tokyo aims to quadruple the country's annual global food exports to 5 trillion yen, or about 40 billion dollars, by 2030.

Similar platforms will also be launched in New York as well as in China, Thailand and the EU among other places in the near future.
