Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Indonesian President Joko Widodo say they will boost cooperation to address a range of global issues, including Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Kishida arrived in Indonesia on Friday on the first leg of a tour of Southeast Asia and Europe. He met Joko at the presidential palace in Bogor, near the capital Jakarta. The two leaders said they will work together to help bring about a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine. They agreed that Russia's aggression is unacceptable, and that using force to unilaterally change the status quo should not be allowed in any region. Kishida said Japan and Indonesia are confronted with many challenges, including North Korea and the situation in the East and South China seas. The prime minister said maintaining and strengthening the free and open international order has become even more important. He went on to say that Japan and Indonesia will firmly oppose any actions that threaten their shared principles. Kishida and Joko agreed to strengthen cooperation to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific.
