Indonesia: Putin says he will attend G20 summit NHK

Indonesian President Joko Widodo says Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend a Group of 20 summit scheduled for November in Bali.

Indonesia holds the rotating G20 presidency this year.

Member nations are divided about whether Putin should be allowed to attend, in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On Friday, Joko revealed that Putin expressed his intention to participate during telephone talks the previous day. He also said the Russian leader extended his thanks for the invitation.

Moscow's presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that Russia is preparing to attend the summit, but it's too early to discuss any details.

Joko also revealed that he extended a special invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during telephone talks on Wednesday.
