US long-term interest rates have hit their highest level in more than three years on speculation of further monetary tightening. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose above 3 percent at one point on Monday for the first time since December 2018. The US Federal Reserve will discuss further tightening of its monetary policy to curb inflation when its policymakers begin a meeting on Tuesday. Higher US long-term interest rates have prompted market players to buy dollars. In New York on Monday, the yen was traded in the 130-range against the dollar. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note briefly fell below 1 percent after the Fed introduced zero-interest rate and easy-money policies in March 2020. The yield began to pick up with the US economic recovery and rising prices before it rose above 2 percent in February.
