An aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said freezing the frontline is a possible scenario for realizing a ceasefire in fighting against Russia.
        
                    
                  
Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the head of Ukraine&#039;s presidential office, spoke in an interview with NHK in Ukraine&#039;s capital, Kyiv, on Thursday.
        
                    
                  
He said Zelenskyy has emphasized that Ukraine must be realistic. He noted the country understands that it is impossible to liberate all Russian-held territories by military means at the present time under the circumstances.
        
                    
                  
Podolyak also said Zelenskyy stresses that no Ukrainian territories will be recognized as Russian. He said such a step is prohibited by international law.
        
                    
                  
Podolyak also talked about what sorts of security guarantees should be provided to Ukraine once a ceasefire materializes.
        
                    
                  
He argued that in addition to other countries deploying forces to Ukraine, there should be a legally prescribed mechanism to immediately apply sanctions if Russia engages in aggression again.
