An evacuation effort has been underway for those trapped in a steel plant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol. But there are fears that more people may not be able to leave as Ukrainian officials said Russian troops have resumed shelling. They told local media that Russian forces resumed attacks using all kinds of weapons immediately after the first evacuation was completed. Footage showed thick smoke rising from the destroyed steel plant after shelling. Officials say more than a hundred people were taken out on Sunday. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba described the evacuation as fragile. Kuleba said, "I can commend the tireless efforts of the United Nations and International Committee of the Red Cross for making it happen. But everything is very fragile, things can fall apart at any given moment." President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the evacuation will continue on Tuesday. He said, "We continue to do everything to save our people from Mariupol. The evacuation operation continues. We also expect movement through humanitarian corridors from other cities on Tuesday." He also expressed outrage that a Russian missile strike on a dormitory in the southern city Odesa killed one teenager and wounded another. The US Defense Department said that the Russian forces in the eastern region of Donbas are suffering from poor command and control. Officials say the Ukrainians continue to hold Kharkiv and have pushed the Russians about 40 kilometers east of the city. Meanwhile, Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has condemned Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's comment that Adolf Hitler had "Jewish origins." Lavrov made the assertion in an interview with an Italian TV station on Sunday. He had been asked about Zelenskyy's strong protest over Russia trying to justify the invasion by likening the Ukrainian administration to Nazi Germany. Bennett said in a statement on Monday that Lavrov's words are ''untrue, and their intentions are wrong." Bennett added that the use of the Holocaust as a political tool must be stopped immediately.
