Asian Games in China postponed amid infection surge NHK

The Asian Games, scheduled in China's Hangzhou in September, have been postponed due to the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The Olympic Council of Asia made the announcement on Friday after an executive board meeting in Uzbekistan.

It also said new dates will be determined through discussions among parties concerned, including the OCA and the organizing committee.

The 19th Asian Games were scheduled to take place in the Chinese city from September 10 to 25.

In the previous edition in 2018 in Jakarta, more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions competed in 40 sports. The variety of sports was larger than that of the Olympics.
