An unmanned submersible has been deployed in the ongoing search for people who were on a tour boat that sank off Hokkaido, northern Japan, two weeks ago. The "KAZU I" sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula during a sightseeing cruise on April 23. Of the 26 people on board, 14 have been confirmed dead and 12 remain missing. The crew of a private salvage company's vessel, the Shin-nichi-maru, operated the unmanned submersible at a depth of about 120 meters. The Japan Coast Guard says that, as of 3 p.m. on Sunday, no new clues had been found about the whereabouts of the missing people. An underwater camera used by the police was recovered from the sunken boat. Specialized divers are expected to join the operation by the end of May to detect if anyone was trapped inside.
