Social media company X was fined €120 million by the European Commission for violating the Digital Services Act, with specific issues being deemed deceptive blue checkmark system and lack of ad transparency. 2. Nikita Bier, X's Head of Product, accused the European Commission of exploiting an advertising loophole on their platform to post a misleading message, resulting in termination of the commission's ad account. 3. The European Commission maintains that they use social media tools in good faith and expect them to comply with both the platforms' terms and conditions and legislative framework. They have suspended paid advertising on X since October 2023.
