Human Rights Watch has reported cases of what it calls "apparent war crimes" in Ukraine, and says abuses against civilians should be "impartially investigated and appropriately prosecuted."

The New York-based human rights group released a report on Wednesday based on research in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. The group visited 17 villages and towns. It interviewed 65 people between April 10 and May 10.

Human Rights Watch says it has confirmed 22 apparent summary executions, and nine other unlawful killings.
It reported six possible enforced disappearances in which civilians were detained but their families could not find information about their circumstances.
It also documented seven cases of torture.

A 66-year-old woman in the Kyiv region told the group she was at home when Russian soldiers dragged her son out to the yard. After they withdrew, she found his body near her home. She said he had been "shot in the ear, with blood covering his face."

A 47-year-old man, also in the Kyiv region, testified that he was interrogated after being blindfolded and handcuffed. He said Russian soldiers pointed a rifle to his head and used an electric shocker on the back of his head. He said it was very painful.
