The Tibetan government-in-exile says a senior US official has met the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala in northern India.
                
The government posted a video of the meeting between the Tibetan spiritual leader and US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Uzra Zeya on social media on Thursday.
                
In the video, Zeya conveys greetings from President Joe Biden and the American people and wishes for the Dalai Lama&#039;s good health.
                
The Dalai Lama responded that the US is a democratic nation with complete freedom. He said India is also a democratic country, where all different religious traditions live together.
                
This is the first time that a senior US official has met with the Dalai Lama since President Biden took office last year.
                
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian conveyed Beijing&#039;s displeasure with the meeting to reporters in the Chinese capital on Thursday. He said the 14th Dalai Lama has long attempted to split Tibet from China.
                
He added that the US should stop meddling in China&#039;s internal affairs under the pretext of Tibet-related issues, and offer no support for &quot;separatist activities.&quot;
