Torrential rain has pounded India and Bangladesh. Floods and landslides have left at least 25 people dead in India, and displaced hundreds of thousands from their homes. More than 1,800 villages in the northeastern state of Assam were inundated. Roads and houses were submerged in muddy water, making many homes uninhabitable and putting others at risk. Officials said on Tuesday more than 650,000 people were displaced from their homes in the past 10 days. Authorities have set up more than 300 relief camps and are distributing daily necessities. The floodwaters have risen across India's border with Bangladesh, where more than 100 villages are badly affected and at least two million people are in urgent need of food and drinking water. Both nations are prone to frequent floods, and the border region is considered particularly vulnerable to the impact of climate change.
