Finland and Sweden have wrapped up talks with Turkey. The two Nordic countries are trying to win support for their bids to join NATO. But Ankara says it still has concerns. Swedish and Finnish Diplomats met separately with their Turkish counterparts, who are calling for firm security guarantees. Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has criticized both countries for their apparent support of Kurdish militant groups active in Turkey and Syria. He also wants them to lift an arms embargo against Turkey. Turkish Presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said, "We have seen a positive attitude in this meeting toward lifting the sanctions against the defense industry. Of course, this is a pleasing development." All 30 NATO members must give their approval for any new countries to be admitted. Sweden and Finland submitted applications last week. Both countries have cited concerns over regional security, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
